Job Summary:
The Digital Asset Manager is responsible for organizing, managing, and preserving digital assets within the Library and Information Science department's archiving systems. This role requires a deep understanding of archiving principles, digital preservation, and information management practices. The Digital Asset Manager will collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure effective storage, retrieval, and access to digital assets, while maintaining the integrity and security of the collection.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement strategies for the organization, classification, and preservation of digital assets within the archiving systems.
- Create and enforce metadata standards and best practices to facilitate efficient retrieval and discovery of digital assets.
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure proper ingestion and tagging of new digital assets into the archiving systems.
- Collaborate with the IT department to ensure the integrity and security of digital assets, including backups, disaster recovery plans, and access controls.
- Monitor and maintain the quality of digital assets, performing regular audits, and addressing any issues or inconsistencies.
- Work closely with stakeholders to identify and implement improvements to the archiving systems, workflows, and processes.
- Provide training and support to staff members on the proper use of archiving systems, metadata standards, and digital preservation techniques.
- Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to digital asset management and archiving.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Library and Information Science or a related field.
- Proven experience working as a Digital Asset Manager or in a similar role within an archiving environment.
- In-depth knowledge of archiving principles, digital preservation standards, and information management practices.
- Proficient in using archiving software and systems, including metadata management tools.
- Strong understanding of metadata standards such as Dublin Core, MODS, or METS.
- Familiarity with digital asset formats, codecs, and file formats.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of copyright laws, intellectual property rights, and privacy regulations related to digital assets.
